How to save your own Instagram reels
Keeping a local copy of your own reels can help with creator backups, portfolio organization, editing workflows, and records of published work. Kimchily is designed for public posts and reels that you own or have permission to save.
1. Open your public reel
Open Instagram, find the reel you want to archive, and copy the share link. Kimchily works with public reel URLs and does not require an Instagram login in public hosted mode.
2. Paste the URL into Kimchily
Return to the Kimchily homepage, paste the reel URL, and start the download. If media is publicly available, the service prepares downloadable files.
3. Download and organize the file
Save the generated file to a folder for your brand, client, campaign, or date. Consistent folder names make it easier to find original posts later.
Suggested archive structure
- Use a folder per account or project.
- Keep the Instagram shortcode or publish date in the filename when possible.
- Store captions, campaign notes, or license information next to the media file.
- Back up important creator assets to a second location.
Before saving someone else's reel
Only download media you own, have permission to save, or are otherwise legally allowed to archive. Public availability does not automatically mean a reel can be reused, reposted, or redistributed.
